Most men wore a dark shade of blue because indigo dye was quite resistant to fading in the sun.  The color became known as navy blue.

The peak lapel tends to broaden your shoulders.

The tuxedo in this picture is a shawl collar – but this jacket is unusual because it is gray. It was my father’s, so it is about 60 years old.
